This Christmas Mocktail recipe is sure to make your season Merry & Bright! I’m not much of a drinker over here, but I still love festive and elegant beverages.
If you’re a fan of White Russians, you’ll also love my Gingerbread White Russian.
Often the problem with Mocktails is the only thing left out is alcohol so you’re left with a sugary overly sweet drink. You have to make sure you have the right substitutions so you still have a balanced and flavorful drink.
For more on how to make a great Mocktail, check out these . The Raspberry Daiquiri and Strawberry Mojito are two of my favorites and even though they are more summer drinks, the colors are fitting for Christmas.
What’s in a White Russian?
In order to make a great non-alcoholic version, we need to know what’s in the traditional co*cktail.
- Vodka
- Coffee Liqueur (such as Kahlua)
- Heavy Cream
White Russians are cool and creamy with a hint of sweet. Kind of like an iced coffee flavor, but with a little more comfort and a little kick.
Alcohol substitutions
There isn’t really a good substitute for Vodka, you can use water if you need to thin something out, but in this case, I would recommend omitting it.
For the Coffee Liqueur, use strong brewed coffee with some vanilla extract added to it.
Heavy cream stays as is, but if you want a lighter version you can use half and half, milk, or nut milk.
Key Ingredients:
- strong brewed coffee
- vanilla extract
- peppermint extract
- heavy cream
- peppermint stick (optional garnish)

- Pour the coffee over the ice
- Add the extracts.

Step Two: Float the Cream
In order to “float” cream, hold a spoon with the bottom facing up, over the glass. Gently pour the heavy cream over it. Notice how the cream sits on top of the coffee? That’s what we’re going for.
You’ll look like a master mixologist to all your guests!

Step Three: Stir & Garnish
Give your drink a very gentle stir, and garnish with a peppermint stick.
Notes
- Use more or less peppermint extract depending on your tastes.
- For a sweeter version add just a bit of simple syrup, sugar, stevia, or sweetener of choice. I love the Now brand of Better Stevia, they make a vanilla flavor that’s fantastic.
- For an even more festive appearance, dip the rim of the glass in simple syrup, and then in crushed candy canes or peppermints
- Simple syrup is just equal parts water and sugar, warmed until the sugar is melted and then cooled. Store in the refrigerator.
