Is Golden Skate closing down? ›

“The community has held a special place in our hearts,” Golden Skate management said in a Facebook post on June 29. “It is unfortunate that we must close our doors July 31, 2022. We would like to express our gratitude and appreciation for your patronage and support throughout all the years.”

The 2024 U.S. Figure Skating Championships were held January 22–28, 2024, at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

Hassan Sharifi, the owner, said the decision to close came down to finances. The rink was forced to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which severely hurt the business. Once they were able to re-open, they've seen with fewer people coming back to skate. The land where the rink sits will be re-developed into housing.

The 2025 Prevagen U.S. Figure Skating Championships will be held Jan. 20-26, 2025, in Wichita, Kansas, at INTRUST Bank Arena. Why do male figure skaters wear gloves? ›

Wearing gloves helps skaters keep their hands warm while out on the ice. They also offer a layer of protection in case of a fall, or if a skater performs a tricky move that requires them to grab their blade with their hand.

Bodyshirts are a popular costume option for male figure skaters: a garment that's a shirt with an attached brief.

The International Skating Union has not posed any restrictions on women wearing black skates or men wearing white skates.

In each figure skating discipline, there are either six or eight test levels, with the highest one being either “Senior” or “Gold”. When an athlete passes their senior or gold test, it is a huge accomplishment, marking many years of dedication to the sport, and their mastery of that discipline.

As a skater advances, the tests become more difficult. The highest achievement in each discipline is passing the senior, also called "gold," test. When a skater passes a gold test, he or she earns the designation "U.S. Figure Skating Gold Medalist."

Skates: Skates are another type of cartilaginous fish closely related to sharks and rays. They have a similar body shape to rays, with flattened bodies and large pectoral fins. However, skates lack the venomous barb found in many ray species.

The series will follow a group of high school boys who participate in a fictional type of competitive figure skating known as “skate-leading”.
